Replace Your Missing Teeth with Natural-looking Dental Bridges

Whether you have lost one or several teeth, you have likely noticed the negative impact on your smile’s appearance, function, and health. Your chewing and speaking abilities are reduced, and you may feel embarrassed to smile because of your mouth gaps.

Stoneycreek Village Dental understands the undesirable impacts of missing teeth. Of the many tooth replacements, we offer, Drs. Yohannes Melkie and Alan Chan may recommend dental bridges to restore your smile and self-confidence.

What are dental bridges?

Dental restorations like crowns and fillings repair a tooth that’s already there, but a dental bridge is used to replace one or several missing teeth in a row. In this case, two dental crowns are installed on healthy teeth (abutments) on either side of the gap, and then we attach artificial teeth (pontics) to close the gap.

Dental bridges can either be fixed or removable, and they can be anchored by dental implants for a superior outcome.

The dental bridge procedure

Patients who want to replace their missing teeth with dental bridges should commit to at least two dental appointments. Most of the magic happens during the initial consultation. Here, we establish your eligibility for dental bridges through physical exams and digital radiographs.

We start with tooth preparation if a dental bridge is right for your smile. We file down and reshape your abutment teeth to create room for dental crowns. Usually, this procedure is done after numbing your mouth to minimize discomfort.

After tooth preparation, we take your oral impressions to help the lab technician to fabricate your dental restorations. Since manufacturing your bridge may take a few weeks, we will install a temporary bridge to protect your smile.

When your permanent bridge is ready, we will install your new bridge. Commonly, we make a few adjustments to your bridge to ensure it fits comfortably and looks natural. You may take a few days to get used to your dental bridge, but soon everything will feel and look normal.

Many Happy Faces

A bridge is a non-surgical way to replace one or many teeth. A bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors to support the missing tooth or teeth. With today’s dental advancements, a bridge can be fabricated in a fairly short period of time, using a metal or nonmetal foundation. Don’t let that missing tooth affect the way you speak, eat, and smile. Bridges yield immediate results that last a lifetime. Ask your dentist what type of bridge may be right for you.
