Porcelain Veneers, A Versatile Way to Treat Many Dental Imperfections for a Stunning Smile

A dazzling smile is one of the easiest ways to make a lasting first impression. Unfortunately, if you have stained, gapped, or uneven teeth, it can be challenging to use your smile to your advantage. At Stoneycreek Village Dental, we believe that all patients deserve a smile that makes them proud. Our cosmetic dental team is happy to offer porcelain veneers to breathe life into dull, unappealing smiles.

What are dental veneers?

They are ultra-thin shells of porcelain mounted on the front teeth to hide their imperfections. Unlike dental crowns that encase the entire tooth, teeth veneers only cover the front part of the teeth to improve their appearance.

Drs. Yohannes Melkie, Alan Chan, and the team can use dental veneers to hide many cosmetic flaws, including.

  • Chipped or sensitive teeth
  • Gummy smiles
  • Gapped teeth
  • Severely discoloured teeth
  • Slightly crooked teeth
  • Oddly shaped or sized teeth

Porcelain veneers reflect light just like your natural teeth, meaning they can be colour-matched to mimic the shade of your natural teeth. Once Drs. Melkie and Chan install dental veneers, they will be virtually undetectable to others.

The dental veneers treatment

After discussing your smile concerns with our dental team, it takes at least two appointments to transform your smile with veneers. The first step is to plan your treatment — we discuss the colour, shape, and size of your veneers to choose a treatment plan that matches your personality, facial features, and other attributes.

Once done with planning, we etch out a small amount of your enamel to ensure your veneers sit flat against your natural teeth. Next, we take your bite impressions to help the lab technician custom-make your veneers. While you wait for your permanent veneers, we will install temporary veneers to ensure you have an unaltered smile.

When your permanent veneers are ready, we will remove the temporary ones and test your new veneers. We make a few adjustments where necessary for a comfortable fit and natural appearance. Finally, we use dental cement and a curing light to bond your veneers to your teeth.

Are there alternatives to porcelain veneers?

Sometimes, we may recommend composite veneers if you are budget constrained. These veneers are directly bonded to your teeth using the material used to treat cavities. Composite veneers are installed in one day but aren’t as durable as porcelain veneers.

Many Happy Faces

Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
